Event Info
Playlovers are proud to present the Perth premiere performance of the pop opera musical bare; book, music and lyrics by Jon Hartmere and Damon Intrabartolo, directed by Kristen Twynam-Perkins.
bare is, at its heart, an operatic love story. The coming of age of two high school seniors and their struggles at their private, Catholic boarding school, Peter, a socially awkward loner, and Jason, the golden-boy popular jock. Set in a Catholic boarding school, the show centres on a group of friends during their senior year. Altar boy Peter is in love with his roommate Jason, one of the most popular kids in school. They are carrying on a closeted romance but Peter wants to go public with their affair, at least to his mother, whom he loves dearly. Jason isn't so keen on the idea, as he feels that his entire world would crumble if word of the relationship got out.
This multi award winning sensation has won numerous awards over the years including the Los Angeles Weekly Award for Best Musical, the Ovation Award for Best Musical and the L.A. Drama Critics Award for Best Score. The musical debuted in 2000 at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles, California, running for some five months, and then in 2004 at the American Theatre of Actors off-Broadway. bare has continued to perform throughout the United States and the world.
bare is ripe with themes of forbidden love, alienation and spiritual confusion and will feature a live band performing under the musical direction of Jacob Latter (Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, Cabaret) and Andrew Dobosz (Babes in the Woods).
This teen-angst rock musical contains adult themes, drug references and sex scenes making it suitable for mature audiences only.
