Event Info
Stravinsky's thrilling The Rite of Spring headlines West Australian Ballet's annual season of ballet under the stars - an unforgettable summer calendar event.
The Rite of Spring - World Premiere
Petr Zuska, whose Bolero and Maria's Dream captivated audiences in Quarry 2008, returns by popular demand to create a new The Rite of Spring for West Australian Ballet. Stravinsky's extraordinary music, evoking primitive scenes of pagan Russia, shocked audiences when it premiered with Diaghilev's Ballets Russets in 1913. Still today, it remains one of the most challenging and demanding works in the ballet repertoire - a guaranteed showstopper!
Suite No. 2
Dolly
The Games We Play
Also featuring in this unmissable program are: Uwe Scholz' striking Suite No. 2 (on Rachmaninov's Suite for Two Pianos); Dolly, a comtemplation of mortality from Artistic direct Ivan Cavallari (on Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No 1); and house choreographer Timothy O'Donnell's quirky twist on relationships The Games We Play.
Bring your friends and a picnic, and enjoy a superb evening of ballet under the stars this summer.
Special Valentine’s Day performance Sunday 14 February.
"West Australian Ballet's season at the Quarry can always guarantee the scintillating presence of the stars. The heavenly bodies twinkle above the champagne picnics to make theatre a special event, an occasion when dance and romaticism mix in a light-heatred whirl." The West Australian.
