MONTHLY PROGRAMME

Wednesday, 8 October 10:30am - Youth Ballet WA - Divertissements

The vital and energetic Youth Ballet WA, the performing arm of the renowned Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre, will present three specially commissioned works for a memorable Morning Melodies. La Fille Mal Gardée is a popular, traditional, classical ballet, reworked by former St Petersburg Ballet principal, Tatiana Pevnev for this production. It is a delightful tale of the difficult path of young love. Widow Simone is determined to betroth her wilful daughter Lise to the eccentric son of a rich farmer, but Lise and her lover Colas conspire to thwart the widow’s plans. Also being performed is Aria Animée choreographed by international guest artist Terence Etheridge, and Spring Serenade by acclaimed WA choreographer Kim McCarthy. These beautifully-dressed excerpts will enchant all who love classical dance and superb music.

Wednesday, 12 November 10:30am - Songs from the Girl Next Door - Doris Day
Featuring Sherry Anne Hayes and Adam Mitchell
Musical Director Tim Cunniffe

Who didn’t once wish they could sing like Doris Day, look like her or, conversely, marry the girl with the wholesome girl-next-door image? Once described as the most gifted performer of the 1950s and ‘60s - Doris sang, danced and acted her way through nearly 40 films, becoming famous in film musicals such as Pajama Game and Calamity Jane, and recorded around 45 albums. Sherry Anne Hayes invites cabaret artist Adam Mitchell to be her ‘Rock Hudson’ in this rollercoaster ride through some of Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff’s most famous songs, such as ‘Que Sera, Sera’, ‘Secret Love’, 'By the Light of the Silvery Moon' and ‘Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps’.

Wednesday, 10 December 10:30am - Been There, Done That, Too!
Christmas with Agelink Theatre Company
Compiled and Directed by Sally Tunnicliffe
Accompanied by Glenn Hogue

Would Christmas be Christmas without the Morning Melodies Christmas show? Not at all! By popular demand, those multi-talented thespians who entertained so well last year - Sally Sander, Maurie Ogden and Irene French - are here again. They’ll bring a carpetbag of songs, stories and memories of times past, all proving that you are never too old to have fun. The mixture is seasoned with a good helping of laughter and garnished with Christmas spirit. Established in 1993, Agelink provides intergenerational and interactive travelling theatre productions that are based on the recollections of seniors. This time, it’s the cast’s recollections that make for a very funny show!
